Quiet Virtual Co-Working Space

We have re-starting our Quiet Virtual Co-Working Space! For those of you wondering what a Quiet Virtual Co-Working Space is, and whether it might be helpful for you, you can find more information below.

What is virtual co-working?

A virtual co-working space is an online platform that allows you to work in the same area as others and can mimic a real-life coworking space / office in various aspects. The idea gained popularity during lockdown, when millions of office workers around the world found themselves working from home for the first time, and began to experience feelings of loneliness, isolation, and lack of motivation. Virtual co-working spaces provided employees with an opportunity to recreate feelings of connection they might have had in an office environment. Although many people have now returned to their offices, hybrid working has increased significantly, and so the popularity of virtual co-working spaces has continued.

What are the possible benefits?

• Combatting loneliness / isolation.

• Help to put a routine or schedule in place.

• For some people, the presence of others can help to maintain focus and minimise distractions.

• Having someone to hold you accountable in a passive, supportive way can be a useful technique for neurodivergent people, helping to boost productivity and focus.

• Gentle background noises (e.g., typing, writing notes) can be relaxing for some people.

Who can attend?

Anyone is welcome to attend our Quiet Virtual Co-Working Space sessions! Whether you are remote working, a student, or simply need to sit down and focus on some ‘life admin’!

What to expect?

We are operating our co-working space as a quiet area, so the purpose is not to chat with others, but rather to work quietly in the presence of others. Hosted on Zoom, there will be a brief introduction from the session hosts, and any questions or comments can be directed to the chat box. The session will last for two hours, and you are free to leave at any time. We aim to run the sessions on a weekly basis, if there is demand for this, but there is no obligation to attend every session!

How can I sign up?

To sign up, or for more information, you can email: help@autismunderstanding.scot
