Due to the closure of Autism Understanding Scotland from the end of January 2024, we are gradually closing down all of our services. We apologise for any frustration or inconvenience.

Our services for people in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Shetland:

  • 1:1 support for autistic adults covering a wide range of topics around what being autistic means to you, exploring reasonable adjustments, and supporting yourself as an autistic person

  • In Shetland we offer 1:1 support for families with autistic children to develop understanding of autism and support strategies

Gaming group

  • Held every Wednesday from 6-8pm at our offices at 41 Regent Quay, Aberdeen, the Gaming Group is an opportunity to meet and socialise with other autistic people in a relaxed setting. Board games and video games are available. No formal diagnosis is required, we support self-identification.

Autistic Lunch Club

Held every second Wednesday from 12:30-1:30pm on Zoom, the Autistic Lunch Club is an opportunity to meet and socialise with other autistic people in a relaxed setting. No formal diagnosis is required, we support self-identification.

Late Diagnosis Group
 

Late Diagnosis Group

Our Late Autism Diagnosis Group run by our autistic staff who have themselves received a late diagnosis of autism.  Aimed at autistic adults, the group is an opportunity to:

  • Explore what it means to be autistic to you

  • Learn about autism from an autistic perspective

  • Develop deeper understanding of how you work

  • Learn about your rights and reasonable adjustments

  • Learn new support strategies

  • Meet other autistic adults

  • Ask questions about autism

Teen Diagnosis Group

Our Teen Autism Diagnosis Group run by our autistic staff. With separate sessions for teens and their supporters, the group is an opportunity to:

  • Explore what it means to be autistic to you

  • Learn about autism from an autistic perspective

  • Develop deeper understanding of how you work

  • Learn about your rights and reasonable adjustments

  • Learn new support strategies

  • Meet other autistic teens

  • Meet other families with autistic teens

  • Ask questions about autism

Autistic Led Training
 

Autistic Led Training & Consultation

We deliver regular webinars to improve understanding and acceptance of autism. These aim to share support strategies and provide good quality information to autistic people, families, professionals, and the general public. 

We also deliver bespoke training and consultation services to businesses, events, charities, Health and Social Care Partnerships, and any other organisation who is interested in supporting autistic people. These sessions can cover a wide range of topics.

Autism Information Hub

The Autism Information Hub is written by our autistic autism professionals.  It offers insight into what it is like to be autistic, strategies to support yourself as an autistic person, and information about how you can support autistic people around you to grow and develop.
